The Calinesti-Oas commune is situated in the West part of the Tara Oasului basin, at 46 km distance from Satu Mare city, the district capital and it has as neighbors the Gherta Mica locality at North, the Prilog Vii and Livada villages at South, the Boinesti village at East, and at West the Turulung locality, which represents the bound between Tara Oasului and Ugocea. |

The commune has a surface of 4188 ha, from which 828 ha with houses and 3360 ha agricultural terrain, it has 4850 inhabitants, and from the administrative point of view, it is made of the following villages: |

Being situated in the North-East of the country, the Calinesti-Oas commune has a temperat-continental climate. The most spread species of trees are: the oak, the common oak, the beech, and the fauna is made of: the wolf, the bear, the fox, the wild-boar, the deer, etc. |

The Calinesti locality is documentary certified in 1490. From the same period, some testimonies were kept about the Lechinta village, which is supposed to be even older. The Pasunea Mare and Coca appeared in the documents much later. |

The research made between 1964-1969 revealed traces from the stone age. Among others a hearth sole, and recently, in Coca village, a polished stone ax was discovered dating from the new stone age, the Neolithic. |

According to some archeologists, some traces discovered in the Calinesti-Oas commune would have been left 10000 - 35000 years before Christ. |

The discoveries from the bronze and iron age are remarkable, also the fortified tower from the Hurca hill, dating from 2800 before Christ. Since the Middle Age, the Oas developed as an administrative area, known under the name “tara” (the county), as Tara Maramuresului, Tara Lapusului, etc. |

Because of the inhabitants’ hard life, there are mentioned some peasants’ movements around 1514. After the Pintea Viteazu outlaw’s death, the earl Karoly tortured the Romanians. One of the harshest measures taken was the abolition of the villages and the displacement of the Romanian families. Many fugitives went to Tara Romaneasca. |

In 1727, the name of the local Principe from Kanyhaza (Calinesti), Paszy Iakab-Vaida, appears on the “fugitives list”, who announced that two families ran from his village. |

In 1784, the Horia, Closca and Crisan rebellion extended up to Tara Oasului, including Seini area also. The documents certify that after the defeat of the rebellion, the rebels from Calinesti were also interrogated by the authorities. |

The most important historical event, to which the inhabitants of the Calinesti took part, was the Big Union in 1918. Until the summer of 1999, the Calinesti Oas commune developed slowly, but constantly. Starting from this year, the commune began to develop faster because of the incomes made by the young men abroad. |

Presently, in the commune there are 5 schools, 5 kindergartens, 2 Cultural Halls having together 400 places, a library, 3 sport fields, a gymnasium, 5 churches, one being a Pentecostal Chrch in the Coca village. |

The commune has a communal dispensary and two sanitary centers in the Lechinta and Coca village. The inhabitants of the commune, the majority being orthodox, but no matters the religion, live in peace and good understanding. The church from Lechinta, of which building started in 1604, is now in the Tara Oasului museum from Negresti Oas. |

The commune has 18 km of asphalted road, 38 km of causeway, 2 bridges, 24 little bridges and 285 fountains. The drinking water network, which is presently being worked on, will be supplied with water from two wells bored near the Calinesti lake.
